Bad Data
The abstract expressionists discovered that they could paint and convey meaning without associating an object with a subject. They could paint the contours of their emotional inner life without associating it with a landscape, a portrait, or a still life. So we needn't make representational art anymore to convey the beauty and fragility of our world, or the immutability of our soul. If you get abstract art, the connection goes deep. You may never look at another humdrum landscape again.
Every image in this series begins life as a photograph of something. The image files are corrupted by the computer itself beyond the point of recognition. I enhance the colors and transform the files into dazzling graphics. Perhaps one day, with a chip in your brain, you will be able to reverse the process and see these images for what they are -- fields and flowers, chairs and nudes -- some of my favorite things. In the meantime, they remain beautiful "bad data."
As with most, if not all, abstract art, the bigger the better.
_______________
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they’re quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name.
